Every so often two kindred fashion spirits meet and create something beautiful together: Such is the case with Lady Gaga and Marc Jacobs. The pop diva made headlines today by walking the designer’s Fall 2016 runway, but it’s hardly the first time Gaga has appeared head to toe in the designer’s clothes. Gaga has embraced Jacobs’s most outlandish wares since the beginning of her career, and many of her most pivotal red carpet moments came to being thanks to him. The Ziggy Stardust–inspired gown she wore to make her entrance at the Grammy Awards earlier this week hit a high note with fans, and that Bowie tribute played at the show tonight as well, with vertiginous, glam-rock platform shoes.
For his part, Jacobs has always loved the kind of radically stylish musician who marches to the beat of her own drummer—he is, after all, the designer who put Beth Ditto on his runway and cast Cher in his Fall 2015 ad campaign. And, given that Gaga and Jacobs share the same provocative, free-spirited approach to fashion—not to mention a love of dogs and tattoos—odds are that they’ll be collaborating for years to come. While the world awaits their next move—a Jacobs-designed Oscar dress perhaps?—take a look back at the very best times this duo joined forces.
