Blue Bottle Coffee's Artsy Culver City Shop Opens Next Week

Get ready for caffeine on Monday, March 14

Blue Bottle Coffee, which first announced it was landing in the L.A. area many years ago in Culver City, is finally ready to debut March 14. Since that first announcement, Blue Bottle snatched up Handsome Coffee and took over the prime Arts District location, while opening more outlets on Beverly Blvd, Echo Park, and Venice. But this Culver City project might be the most ambitious in LA for the venture capital-backed company.

Located in the Hayden Tract in a former Datsun repair shop, the airy confines follow a similar minimalist motif for Blue Bottle’s other retail shops. Designer Hiromi Tsuruta makes the best use of the 1,200 some square feet, making it fit into the art gallery-laden area. One striking part of the interior: a cantilevered mezzanine that looks over the space.

As for coffee equipment, they’ll use a La Marzocco Strada EE, a top of the line machine with a sleek profile that allows baristas to better interact with customers. Also in line with some of Blue Bottle’s Beverly Blvd shop, there will be a light menu of prepared foods available to go along with drip coffee, iced drinks, and classic espresso preparations.

Finally, one more unique component of this Culver City shop: a curated selection of “Desert Island” books by famous writers. The first set of books will be compiled by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Bret Easton Ellis, Carrie Brownstein, Gary Shteyngart, and Tilda Swinton.

When it opens on Monday, hours will run 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
