Bobo Closes in Venice as Workers Scrape the Signage from the Door

Another sad end for one of chef Bobo Ivan’s restaurants.

It looks as though Bobo in Venice is closing up shop, less than half a year in. The return of chef Bobo Ivan to the former Piccolo Venice space — the latter closed quietly in August — appears to have been short-lived.

It’s a sad end for a Venice space that for years was considered a dining destination, with locals keeping the place running during the week and folks from other neighborhoods jamming up the weekends. But increased pressure from other restaurants, particularly along Abbot Kinney, seem to have taken its toll on Ivan’s restaurant concepts, with the aptly-named Bobo only lasting about five months.

Tipster Nick A. says that diners were informed of the shutter while eating over the weekend, with one staff member going so far as to scrape the signage off the glass while people were still inside.

When combined with the losses last year of CiBoteca and Hosteria del Piccolo, it seems that Ivan may be out of restaurants to run at the moment. Rumor has it the space will be flipped into a pizza joint, though no word on whether or not Ivan will be involved there as well. Eater reached out to Ivan’s team but so far hasn’t heard back.
