Downtown’s Historic Mayfair Hotel Reveals a Slew of New Food and Beverage Options

A fresh look for a 1920s build in the heart of Downtown

Among all the heavy construction and which-skyscraper-is-taller debates in Downtown, it’s easy to overlook The Mayfair Hotel. But that’s all about to change thanks to a handful of new food and beverage options slated to open on property later this year.

The first up for the historic Mayfair (which dates to the 1920s) is Eve American Bistro. That’s the restaurant’s signature hotel, marrying European and California menu influences to include everything from rotisserie’d duck and lamb to oysters to tableside preparations and big steaks. The restaurant will be overseen by chef Scott Commings, who spent years in the Gordon Ramsay empire, and has plans for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch to start.

Then there’s the lobby lounge area, which is being completely renovated to feel more period specific. M Bar is the primary drink space there, with its oval seating arrangement and wide skylight. The Library sits behind and acts as a den for cocktails and cigars (out on the patio, of course), with a focus on the classic stuff. Above the lobby itself is Mezzanine, a garden area that will serve the hotel’s breakfast and coffee among a hanging green wall and olive tree.

Lastly there’s Fairgrounds, a coffee and tea bar company out of the Midwest that will act a more standalone specialty coffee project. The bar will rotate through a series of small batch roasters across America like Dark Matter Coffee out of Chicago and Verve here in Los Angeles. Fairgrounds comes by way of Michael Schultz at Infuse Hospitality.

Reps for the Mayfair Hotel say that the entire package should be coming online by late summer. Hospitality Alliance is overseeing the management of all the food and drink, while ICO Development and Gulla Jonsdottir handle the construction and design of all the spaces involved.

When all is said and done, The Mayfair will be competing with nearly a dozen new hotel food and drink concepts across Downtown, from the recently-opened InterContinental and gorgeous new Freehand to Hotel Figueroa, which should be up and running shortly near LA Live. Even New York City’s NoMad team is getting in on the action, with their own opening still months away.
