Miyabi Uni is the comeback spot for the former chefs of Maruhide Uni Club
When the beloved sea urchin specialist Maruhide Uni Club closed last year, it was a major loss for the South Bay’s Japanese food fans. However, two chefs from the restaurant have banded together to open Miyabi Uni inside a sprawling retail complex in Old Torrance as of two weeks ago. The rather posh environs are a departure from the strip mall Maruhide, which had a more utilitarian interior.
Miyabi, which boasts a massive open kitchen that looks out into a minimalist space, has perhaps a more refined menu than Maruhide, with a vast array of uni appetizers, soups, rice bowls, pastas, and entrees. The highlights on the menu include a soft-boiled egg with dashi and fresh sea urchin roe, as well as the rich uni-laden creamy spaghetti. The donburi bowls come with top-level sushi grade fish alongside the uni, which currently hails from Santa Barbara.
The full bill of fare is currently available on the website though at the moment they’ve only been serving dinner. Lunch hours are planned in the near future. Currently open 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, with a later 10 p.m. closure on weekends. Closed Sundays.
