The place is part market, part restaurant, part food publication
Silver Lake’s next highly-anticipated eatery is Botanica, a sunny new player landing in a matter of weeks along Silver Lake Boulevard. The former liquor store space dates to the 1940s, but has been revitalized with tall ceilings, ample windows, and a back patio for wine-fueled summer hangouts. And that’s to say nothing of the food.
The menu is the creation of Heather Sperling and Emily Fiffer, a pair of owners with a previous background in food writing and recipe development. Now they’ve transitioned into the restaurant game, with their own space that not only will offer sit-down service for the neighborhood, but also comes with an on-site marketplace for house made goods and products they love, as well as an appropriately-named food magazine also called Botanica that will provide a peek into their process while helping to tell larger stories about food and restaurants along the way.
Much like nearby options Mh Zh and Kismet, the latter of which is also female-run by a pair of New York City expats, expect the menu at Botanica to skew vegetable-heavy. There will also be more than a few Middle Eastern influences, though it’s not exclusively a Mediterranean restaurant at all. Mostly the items, from a spring mezze plate to a vegetarian cassoulet to lamb kabobs, will fall under the same pan-California ethos as so many other restaurants not only in the neighborhood, but across the city.
Check out the opening menus above, from daytime to evening to coffee to drinks. There’s no official opening date for Botanica yet, but expect sometime in the first week of May most likely.
