Firestone Walker Venice Should (Finally) Arrive by Mid-March

Here’s what we know.

After all is said and done and the dust has settled, Venice locals may indeed get to drink some freshly-poured Firestone Walker beer by early as next month. That’s according to this response from a Facebook post regarding the company’s recent hiring slew, wherein a rep for the company says on February 16 that the opening was “about a month or so out.”

Though it’s been seriously delayed — first there was a planned September launch, and then notification that we wouldn’t see the finished product until 2016 — now seems to be the time for the Central Coast-based brand to open the doors and let in the world.

It’s been a long time coming, but fans of the massive craft beer property have been only too happy to wait if it means easier access to the company’s slew of easy drinking beers. Per previous reports, the building should be more than just a taproom, too; Firestone Walker looks to add a downscaled version of their Buellton Barrelworks facility (where the company makes their award-winning sour beers) in the form of a small lounge, while also running a number of dedicated taps and growler fills from elsewhere in the facility. There will also be room for an on-site pilot brewhouse, as well as space for a full-fledged dining room, just like their Paso Robles original (which has also been undergoing a refresh).

Of course all that takes money (and time). But thankfully Firestone Walker is relatively flush these days, having sold themselves off in a rumored $250 million sale to Duvel in July. At the time, co-founder David Walker referred to the sale — which keeps the brand out of the claws of the gigantic beer conglomerates that snapped up Golden Road last year as well — an “elegant solution.”

Reps for Firestone Walker won’t peg a particular opening date just yet, but have indicated in the past that March is likely. Expect a more nuanced announcement (along with plans for a party) in the coming days or weeks.
