A celebrated Charleston chef arrives just in time for summer
Step inside Culver City’s latest casual all-day encounter, Hayden. The bright new cafe offers a bit of something for everyone, from natural bottles of intriguing wine to coffee to shareable plates of food from a James Beard semi-finalist.
That well regarded chef is none other than Ari Kolender, who spent time cooking around Los Angeles before making a national name for himself in Charleston, South Carolina. He’s now back out west, and has partnered up to bring Hayden to life. Among those involved on the wine side is sommelier Anthony Cailan, who has been pouring and selling around town for years. Elsewhere, Tom Dixon handled the fixtures and furniture side of the space.
As for the food, expect everything from banana bread baked off in a cast iron skillet to breakfast bowls and toasts for breakfast. For lunch, think sandwiches, salads, and a raw bar for oysters, ceviches, and crudos. The full opening menu is below.
Hayden officially opens at Culver City’s Platform project on Friday, keeping hours thereafter from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Extended dinner hours until 10 p.m. will come down the line as well, as well as a move to open up at 8 a.m. for coffee and more.
