The in-limbo OC tiki property sends out a final goodbye letter
The final days of Don the Beachcomber are here. After a protracted and mostly silent series of weeks in which ownership for the popular Orange County tiki restaurant refused to address rumors of a shutter, Eater has now been handed an official closing statement. The final night of service will be Sunday.
Don the Beachcomber is among the more well-known names in the greater tiki universe, owing to an eclectic founder and a collection of outlets dating back decades. The Huntington Beach location that is closing wasn’t a part of that original chain, but rather a place that had purchased their way into the naming rights and successfully traded against the bygone brand for a decade. Not that casual fans minded much; this was still a busy weekend place for rum drinks and live music within sight of the water.
Now that’s all going away, due to increased rent and ultimate development plans for the property on which Don the Beachcomber sits. Take a look at the closing statement below, and prepare for one seriously raucous closing weekend.
