The time might be nigh to kiss the shoulder goodbye as the It body part of fashion. Not to say that off-the-shoulder tops are out—they are surely still on the runways this week—but a new, sexier zone has caught the eye of designers: the thigh. And who better to kick off the week’s thigh times than Rihanna, a woman who often opts not to wear pants?
At her Fenty x Puma collection, Rih sent out a bevy of trouser-free models, many of whom wore thigh-high boots with Puma written across the top. The writing was on the thigh, too, at Alexander Wang, where words like strict, girls, and tender were stitched on tights where garter belts would have sat. At Hood By Air, the message was more permanent: “All Ways Always” read a tattoo that spanned a model’s hamstrings. Brands’ love of, well, branding had become a strong theme this season so far, and marrying a message with a little sex appeal seems to be where it’s at.
Elsewhere, thighs peered through slivers cut out in trousers. Rihanna and Hood By Air both showed versions of this, though the most wearable way to show a little leg arrived at Opening Ceremony, where Odette Pavlova’s ivory skin was just slightly visible between her high boot and minidress. How long until Rihanna wears this?
