The Church & State owner and Tony Esnault have finally brought the place to life.
Though it’s been mostly quiet for, oh, a few years now, rumblings have picked up that Spring restaurant will indeed be opening as early as next week. Per their now-functional site, the soft launch of lunch service exclusively begins on Monday, February 8, though the seating will be very limited. From there, evening service will commence on February 13, with a few seatings open for Valentine’s Day dinners
For those with a short memory, Spring is the long, long-gestating next project from the Church & State folks. That would be one Yassmin Sarmadi, who has had a lease signed for the location at Spring and 3rd — inside the historic Douglas Building — for somewhere around four years now.
Former Patina chef Tony Esnault came onboard the project in 2013, back when it seemed like things were closer than ever to actually opening up. Previous reports pegged Church & State’s Fellippe Esteves to the project as well, but those ended up being a bit unfounded. In the end, there’s not much that is known about Spring, to be honest.
Just about no one has seen the finished interior, there’s no menu to speak of, and Sarmadi has been loathe to receive much of any press on the place for a while now, even reaching out to LA Downtown News last spring to scuttle some details they had initially run with. The place is definitely opening up next week though — just don’t be surprised if there are a few last minute touches still being dealt with while you eat your lunch.
