Longtime Mexican Restaurants Malo and Más Malo Close on July 30

An abrupt ending for two prime restaurant spaces

Longtime sister restaurants Malo and Màs Malo are closing for good. The parent company announced today the Mexican restaurants’ final date of service will be July 30. And while the closure is sad news for the city of Los Angeles, this also means that two prime restaurant spaces in Silver Lake and Downtown will be up for grabs.

Malo’s distinct exterior is impossible to miss on Sunset Boulevard. The Silver Lake eatery started serving traditional Mexican in 2003, and owners introduced the stunning Màs Malo in 2010. Located inside an historic bank, Màs Malo showcases a bi-level restaurant with gilded ceilings, a tequila tasting room in an actual security deposit vault, and a downstairs room reminiscent of a 1975 lounge. Màs Malo arrived to Seventh Street before heavyweights like the NoMad, Bottega Louie, and B.S. Taqueria.

When asked for a statement, the company gave the following:

“After 15 years of margs, tacos, and good times, we regretfully announce that both Malo on Sunset Blvd and Mas Malo in DTLA will be closing on July 30th. We are deeply appreciative of all our customers and investors, who have shown us incredible support over the years. We encourage our fans to join us for a farewell drink before we close our doors. It’s been quite the ride!”
