Mr. Sate Gives Palms an Indonesian Edge With Meat Skewers and Beef Rendang

Mr. Sate Gives Palms an Indonesian Edge With Meat Skewers and Beef Rendang

The fast casual shop is up and running now off Motor Avenue

Palms has officially gotten its mitts on another new restaurant worth knowing about, this one turning out inventive Indonesian fare from right off Motor Avenue. Mr. Sate, as the name suggests, leans heavily on the grilled meat skewer side of things, but isn’t behold to just one genre.

Instead, Mr. Sate works a menu that also includes the traditional Indonesian noodle soup soto, plus corn fritters, spring rolls, beef rendang rice bowls, and lots of other stuff. There’s always a rotating board of specials too, whether it’s nasi goreng or fusion-y takes on burritos. You can catch the full menu on the restaurant’s website now.

Don’t expect much from the Mr. Sate space, which sits at the base of a larger mixed-use building. Mostly it’s just a pared-down dining room and open kitchen where you can watch the meat get grilled off, but there’s absolutely no shame in that, especially when the food works. Add in the recently opened Kogi Taqueria and all the fun stuff happening in nearby Mar Vista, and suddenly things are looking up for the not-quite-Westside areas surrounding Culver City.

Mr. Sate is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch, and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner.
