Celebrity chef Richard Blais has found a perfect home
The party continues at the Westfield Century City mall, where Eater has learned that San Diego chef Richard Blais will land his first Los Angeles outlet of Crack Shack. For those unfamiliar, Blais is something of a celebrity chef out of the sister city to the south, and has been expanding his casual chicken and egg mini-chain further north over time — most recently landing an address in Orange County.
That doesn’t mean the opening is imminent. Instead, reps for Westfield are targeting an arrival sometime this spring, with no official date this far off. The restaurant space itself will offer indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of family-friendly stuff like fire pits, bocce ball, and picnic-style communal dining.
The opening of Crack Shack at the Westfield Century City seems on paper to make perfect sense. Not only is the Westfield project nearing completion (with a full reveal coming later this year), but it’s also home to millions of shoppers and diners a year, making the fast casual Crack Shack a natural fit alongside other names like Randy’s Donuts, Wexler’s Deli, and Shake Shack.
Much of the rest of the restaurant work surrounding the Westfield Century City remains ongoing. That’s true for Eataly, which is still targeting an arrival before the end of the year, as well as Javier’s and a still-unnamed Jonathan Waxman restaurant slated for 2018 as well.
