You may not have heard of Lyn Harris by name, but chances are you will have heard of Miller Harris, the sublime London-based perfumery and candle brand that she created in 2000. When she sold the business a few years back, the city’s inner scent circles were left a little bereft by the thought that the best and most stylish nose in the British fragrance business—a woman as well-known for her Céline-clad silhouette as for her way with a leathery floral accord—would no longer be putting her cultish wares onto shelves.
So last fall, when she quietly opened the doors to her new Marylebone concept store, Perfumer H, the beauty world breathed a sigh of relief. The idea, says Harris, was to go back to what she does best—curating bespoke and seasonal fragrances for clients in an intimate space. There they can choose from one of three options: creating a custom fragrance with her from scratch (a collaborative process that can take up to six months); buying a premade one-of-kind scent known as a Laboratory Edition (after the customer takes the bottle from the shop, an additional fee ensures that the formula is put under lock and key and reserved as exclusively his or her own); or opting for one of her ready-to-wear seasonal fragrances (available to anyone who visits the boutique).
Of the latter category, Harris is offering three new perfumes for spring: Rain Cloud (a summery accord of ylang-ylang and vanilla), Atlas (an uplifting, woody citrus), and Musk (a violet and berry bouquet). But olfactory wonders aside, the shop’s welcoming mid-century design—featuring polished brass set against deep blue- and gray-painted walls, lacquered teak-stained panels, and plush velvet seating areas—offers a warm and welcome respite during London Fashion Week and beyond. As Harris puts it, “It’s a haven for the senses—and we serve beautiful teas!” Cheers to that.
