Two East Village Vegan Ice Cream Shops Close in a Week

DF Mavens ice cream is still sold online and in Whole Foods.

Blythe Anne’s and DF Mavens — two East Village dairy-free ice cream shops — have closed within one week of each other. Blythe Anne’s, which closed earlier this week, originally opened as Lula’s Sweet Apothecary in 2008, according to EV Grieve. Anne rebranded in 2014 after a reportedly messy divorce from her husband. Meanwhile, DF Mavens opened its first store in December 2014 on St. Mark’s Place after a relatively successful run as a wholesale company. While Blythe’s has closed for good, DF Mavens will continue selling its vegan products online and at various Whole Foods locations in the Tri-State area.

EV Grieve notes that DF Mavens originally had plans to reopen, but closed officially the following day. The two ice cream shops, located within just five blocks of one another, follow the August closure of Sustainable NYC, another East Village store that sold vegan-friendly ice cream.
