Vogue’s Fashion Market and Accessories Director, Virginia Smith, is a familiar presence at New York Fashion Week, taking in all the top shows and plenty of newcomers, to boot. Here, she shares her Fall 2016 Top 10, from Rodarte’s dreamy dress to Ralph Lauren’s best-in-class shearling to Altuzarra’s so-good-it’s-gotta-go-to-the-Oscars gown.
Victoria combined her deft knowledge of body-con dressing with menswear fabrics for a strong show this season.
Just when we needed a tour de force show, Marc gave it to us in spades. It’s almost impossible to choose just one look from this remarkable collection, but I went for this decadent combination of feathers, down, and sequins.
It was hard not to choose the pants in Look 4 (which are on the top of my Fall shopping list), but in the end, I loved Francisco Costa’s modern take on the animal print.
Leave it to Alex Wang to make a suit look cool.
In one of the chicest presentations of the season, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen once again led us into their world of exquisite taste. Their unwavering point of view is refreshing—and the furnishings from Wyeth didn’t hurt, either.
What can I say, I love a beaded pant for evening . . .
Continuing its momentum from last season, Proenza offered some of the best day looks of the week. I particularly loved the clingy ribbed knit dresses.
In a season of great shearlings, no one does it better than Ralph.
The best evening dress to date—surely some lucky actress will have the good fortune (and sense) to wear it on Oscar night.
