West LA Gastropub Mainstay Bar Food Has Closed For Good

There could be plans for the future, though

West LA restaurant Bar Food has closed for good. Open for almost eight years, the gastropub was a neighborhood staple for food, late happy hours, and weekly trivia.

In 2010, Bar Food made a strong entrance by offering 200 whiskies, 30 beers on tap, a full array of cocktails, and a robust food menu The West LA neighborhood doesn’t provide many options for late night dining or drinking, so the combination was initially a hit with locals.

Eater spoke with Bar Food’s owner Johana Cedicci (who took over in 2012) about the shutter, and the closure is a familiar tale amongst LA restaurants: increasing costs, and declining sales. She tells Eater:

Bar Food was my baby. I loved it so much. Unfortunately due to it’s size, rising costs and inability to fill the house every damn night, we just couldn’t make it. Our usually killer fall was a quiet one and as you know, one quiet season can be all it takes. We love the neighborhood and our absolutely incredible clientele so much and will miss everyone terribly. The outpouring has been so terribly sweet. We’ll see what lies ahead. In the meantime, we really can’t say what a pleasure it was serving up tasty snacks, unique beers and drams to Los Angeles.

Cedicci doesn’t rule out another opening somewhere else in the city — ideally in a smaller neighborhood space — but there are no firm plans to move the restaurant as of now.
