For anyone who carries black eyeliner in their purse for real emergencies, the gritty, lived-in liner seen backstage at Adam Selman tonight is a perfect excuse to do your makeup in an Uber—whether running from show to show or straight to drinks from the office.
“She’s definitely more of a tomgirl,” said makeup artist Emi Kaneko as she applied MAC’s Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline (“the blackest black”) to the inner and outer rims of models’ eyes, skipping mascara and opting for a sweep of windblown, peachy blush. “We want it to look like she did it in the car, pinched her eyes a little bit, and let it go into the natural creases,” Kaneko explained of the look, a departure from the glamorous, try-a-stencil-to-get-it-just-right winged technique seen on last season’s runways. “It’s not perfect by any means.”
