Zucker's Expands to the UWS, the Mannings Visit Rao's, and More Intel

Jacques La Merde pops-up at Mile End, plust more restaurant news and gossip from around NYC.

Zucker’s Bagels is expanding to the Upper West Side. The new location of the hand-rolled bagel shop will open next fall at 273 Columbus Avenue with a menu that will include sandwiches, sweets, and coffee from La Colombe.

The owners of Rosa Mexicano plan to expand to Brooklyn in the near future, although they haven’t decided just where in the borough they want to open a new restaurant.

Word on the street is that a high-end Japanese restaurant is coming to the East Third Street space that formerly housed Meskel Ethiopian. That restaurant closed for renovations last summer and never reopened.

— As a Presidents Day special, Sadelle’s is going to be serving its weekend brunch menu on Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

— Christine Flynn, the Canadian chef behind the hilarious Instagram account Jacques La Merde, is going to be cooking at Mile End on Valentine’s Day. The menu will include an “enchanted pickle labyrinth” and “Dorito-flavored bagel bites romanced with ranch dipping sauce [and] fancy leafs.” Tickets are $125, and reservations can be made by calling 646-494-9508.

Jonathan Adler is leaving Franny’s to work for meal delivery start-up Blue Apron. The chef tells Grub Street about his new job: “It’s recipe development, product development, instructional videos, research. But a lot of it is really just recipe-testing and product-testing.” He’s leaving Franny’s next month.

Forthcoming Lower East Side pizzeria Scarr’s will have a retro dining room, but the pizza will be very much in line with the trends of the day. The flour will be milled in-house, the vegetables will be sourced from Gotham Greens, and the mozz will come from a local purveyor. Slices will be priced at $3, but proprietor Scarr Pimentel plans to offer a discount to kids from the neighborhood. It’s slated to open on Tuesday.

— Sushi Tatsu — a high-end Tribeca Japanese restaurant that’s been in the works for a while — is now slated to open in fall 2016.

— A mystery restaurant is moving into the old Commerce space at 50 Commerce Street in the West Village. As you may recall, Harold Moore’s restaurant closed in this space last July.

The team is doing business under 50 Commerce Street Restaurant LLC, although no other details are available from the Community Board 2 at this time. If you have any intel about this restaurant, please send it to the tipline.

— Next Monday and Tuesday, Daniel Burns will prepare tasting menus at Tørst in Greenpoint with James Knappett, the UK chef behind Bubbledogs and Kitchen Table. The 12-course dinners are $175 per person, and reservations can be made online.
